Santa and Mrs. Claus visit Ponderay residents during the 14th Annual “Santa Sack” Project

Thanks to the generous donations received from the residents and business owners of Ponderay and  surrounding communities this year, Santa, Mrs. Clause and their elves were able to deliver about 550 “Santa Sacks” on Saturday, December 16th, to community members in need this holiday season. The “Santa Sacks” contain a variety of items including toys, books,  hats, gloves, food and holiday treats. In all about 475 sacks were prepared for children including special sacks for babies and toddlers as well as 75 sacks for local senior citizens. There are remaining sacks available to those that were unable to attend the event on Saturday. They can be obtained by stopping into Ponderay City Hall on Monday-Friday while supplies last.

History

The “Santa Sack” project, which has just wrapped up it’s 14th season, is organized each year by Ponderay city staff, city council members and community volunteers.  Donations are collected annually which are used to purchase the many items that are distributed to the community through this project.

Thank you

A special thank you to all of those who donated or volunteered your time and/or equipment this year.

Donations

If you would like to contribute to the annual “Santa Sack” project, donations are collected at Ponderay City Hall year round in person or by mailed at P.O. Box 500, Ponderay, ID 83852. Please make sure that you label your donation as the “Santa Sack” project.

Oh what fun we had!!! – Ponderay Neighbor Day 2017

Comments Off on Oh what fun we had!!! – Ponderay Neighbor Day 2017

Fun was had by one and all at the Ponderay Neighbor Day event on Saturday, September 23rd, which was held behind the Hoot Owl Cafe. The ±6 acre parcel owned by the City of Ponderay came to life as a faux main street, designed to demonstrate a possible future underpass location, was lined by more than 50 vendors offering food, crafts, activities, retail items, live demonstrations, produce, as well as homemade jams and grains. Activities throughout the evening included hot air balloon rides, live music by the Miah Kohal Band, demonstrations by Northside Fire Department, kids crafts, carnival games, pony rides, face painting, bouncy castle and cornhole. Meanwhile the SPOT bus circulated Kootenai and Ponderay on a special one day route providing free transportation to and from the event. While we are unable to get a true count it is estimated that more than 500 people joined us for this free family friendly event.

A big THANK YOU to all of the sponsors, participating vendors and volunteer’s who made this event possible!

The feedback we have heard has been overwhelmingly positive, and many people are asking that we make this an annual event.

We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did and will consider participating again next year!
