Oh what fun we had!!! – Ponderay Neighbor Day 2017

Comments Off on Oh what fun we had!!! – Ponderay Neighbor Day 2017

Fun was had by one and all at the Ponderay Neighbor Day event on Saturday, September 23rd, which was held behind the Hoot Owl Cafe. The ±6 acre parcel owned by the City of Ponderay came to life as a faux main street, designed to demonstrate a possible future underpass location, was lined by more than 50 vendors offering food, crafts, activities, retail items, live demonstrations, produce, as well as homemade jams and grains. Activities throughout the evening included hot air balloon rides, live music by the Miah Kohal Band, demonstrations by Northside Fire Department, kids crafts, carnival games, pony rides, face painting, bouncy castle and cornhole. Meanwhile the SPOT bus circulated Kootenai and Ponderay on a special one day route providing free transportation to and from the event. While we are unable to get a true count it is estimated that more than 500 people joined us for this free family friendly event.

A big THANK YOU to all of the sponsors, participating vendors and volunteer’s who made this event possible!

The feedback we have heard has been overwhelmingly positive, and many people are asking that we make this an annual event.

We hope you enjoyed it as much as we did and will consider participating again next year!

If you are interested in information about participating in Ponderay Neighbor Day 2018 as a vendor or sponsor, please contact KayLeigh Miller at Ponderay City Hall at (208) 265-5468 or via email at

Ponderay Neighbor Day – Celebrating Our Connections

Join your neighbors to celebrate our community at Ponderay Neighbor Day on September 23rd!

The sky’s the limit at this community celebration as we raffle off free tethered hot air balloon rides (weather permitting) throughout the afternoon. The event also features live music by the Miah Kohal Band, pony rides, carnival games, arts and crafts for kids, tasty food vendors, beer garden, jumpy castle and much, much more!

Celebrating our Connections is the theme of Ponderay Neighbor Day, and we have plenty to celebrate in our little community: Ponderay has an expanding trail and park system and a community transit system (the SPOT bus) that helps keep us connected. Give your feedback on how to improve these systems at the event.

While this family-fun event celebrates Ponderay and its immediate neighbors – everyone throughout the region is invited.

The gates open for Ponderay Neighbor Day from 3 to 7 p.m. in the field behind the Hoot Owl. Admittance is free. Parking will be off Emerald Industrial Drive and the SPOT bus will operate a special route in Ponderay and Kootenai to bring people to and from the site.

Ponderay Neighbor Day is sponsored by the City of Ponderay, Friends of the Pend d’Oreille Bay Trail, Selkirk-Pend Oreille Transit (SPOT Bus), Kaniksu Land Trust, P1FCU and the LOR Foundation, with additional support from local businesses and the Kootenai-Ponderay Sewer District.

A variety of additional sponsorships, booths and volunteer opportunities are still available –  Contact Jean Vorhies, Event Coordinator, for details on how to get involved in this great community event –
